Okay, so I didn’t stay away very long did I? I still haven’t had time for pics or interesting meals for that matter, but wanted to give a quick update on my P90X journey. In short, it’s over–for now at least. I’m pretty bummed about it but I wanted to explain why the sudden halt. In two words–STREP THROAT!! I have been sick for the last 4-5 days and have been glued to my couch for the past 3! I don’t know which is worse, working my fingers to the bone or being couch ridden for days!
I felt that it was important for me to share something I have learned over the last few days. Actually, this is NOT a new lesson for me, I just don’t always remember lessons learned. So, what is this profound lesson? PUSHING TOO HARD LEADS TO ILLNESS!! I’m not saying it is that way for everybody, but for MY BODY I need to remember my ‘limits’.
When I saw the Dr. the other day, he asked me how my gluten free diet was going and I had to be honest and tell him–not so good. I ate poorly on vacation and just sort of continued that pattern after returning home. On top of poor diet, I began intense exercise and was also working more than usual. All this put together spells disaster for me! This is the first time I have had strep since being diagnosed with Celiac several years ago. Before my diagnoses, I had strep over and over! Eating bad=very bad immune system!
I have also had to re-examine my motives in starting something as intense as P90x when I have struggled so much with being well and staying well. I have been asking myself over the last few days if looking a certain way is worth it and my answer is a BIG NO!! I will admit that I have been struggling with contentment with the body God gave me and I have been figuring out ways to change my body at the expense of good health.
Where do I go from here? I plan on really paying attention to eating foods that give me life and health and staying away from those that bring illness to my body. I also plan on getting back to what I LOVE–walking in the country and Yoga! If I do any P90X at all, it will only be a workout every now and then–for instance to focus on abs, legs etc. I will also STOP counting calories, carbs, fat etc. That alone has been enough to drive me bananas!
I am totally aware of the fact that I can not do any of this without the grace of God, but I also know that He loves to lavish His children with plenty of grace.
I learned in my Bible study today that we are to do ALL things to the glory of God. If I am just wanting to look a certain way, eat a certain way, or exercise a certain way to bring glory to myself, then my motives are really screwed up.
I need LOTS of prayer to be able to:
1-STOP counting everything I eat
2-Eat foods that bring health and life to my body
3-Stay away from foods that harm my body
4-Do the exercise that I love because I love it!
AND
“So whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it ALL for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
Is there anything in your life that you need to step back and re-examine your motives? Why do you eat a certain way or exercise a certain way?
I know this was a little long and maybe boring, but I would love feedback. I’m hoping to post often about how I’m doing with my new goals, so please stop back by

So sorry to hear you have strep throat Kimberly and hope you feeling well soon! I personally struggled with that myself for years when I was in high school and it would reoccur for the same reason yours is. They did a tonsillectomy and found a pocket of strep behind the tonsil….so that did stop the strep throat. It still took years before I’d discover the gluten sensitivity & Candida overgrowth. My diet has been excellent for years now, but I keep struggling with being consistent with the exercise. My sister was the one that noticed a pattern I didn’t see. Every time I started an exercise program (at home) she noticed I would become exhausted for a day or two after I exercised & I’d become frustrated and after a couple weeks of this I’d quit. So now I’m starting with baby steps and will build on that. Walking too, but I’ve never done yoga because of carpal tunnel, but I’m going to buy a yoga DVD & try and I won’t give up!! Any suggestion on what would be a good yoga DVD for beginners? Good luck to you & we can do it!!!
Aww, thanks so much Cherie! Sorry to hear that you have struggled so much too. I don’t have many dvd’s but I do like Holy Yoga. There is a level one and a gentle yoga dvd that I think are good. I did the gentle one yesterday and it was perfect for after being sick. Let me know how it goes. Would love to hear more about how you are doing.
I just wanted you to know that I love how encouraging you are. I will be praying for you and I hope you feel better.
Thanks Vanessa!
Hey Kim! Love that yoga pic! Thanks for stopping by and saying hello today! I’ll have the pics up for the guest room tomorrow! It’s almost there… I know, that video was TOO cute! I actually thought of Lyla when I watched it
. Hope you’re feeling better today! Love, ~K
I wish you could see Lyla’s babies!! They are the cutest! I am feeling a little better but getting back to work after being sick just about killed me!
Dear Kim,
Whoa, I have not commented in the longest time. I’m sorry that you are still struggling, but comforted to see how your faith is still steady…I definitely have you in my prayers, and I know that God will accomplish all your prayer requests in His perfect time.
Thanks Sophia! I know God’s timing is always right
Definitely NOT boring! I love hearing your thoughts on everything. I hope you find that good balance that you need. That bible verse helped me before. I basically used it as my mantra when I was fighting binging.
Hey girl,
Also wanted to chime in with virtual hugs for being sick! Boo hiss!
I have to admit, when I read you were doing PX90, I shook my head. I really felt it would be bad news, just knowing your history from your blog. I’m glad you have learned that it has been too much for your body and your spirit. God wants you to do what you love because I have a feeling those things (walking and yoga) lead you closer to Him! I will pray for your four points, and look forward to your PROGRESS OF EXERCISE HAPPINESS posts to come! It will inspire me and others, I know!
