I mentioned in my last post that I was going to give P90X a try starting on Monday. Just in case you’re wondering WHY I’m doing this–it is NOT to lose weight! I want to be STRONG, NOT skinny fat! Anyway, I was so excited about it, that I started on Sat.(the 7th). Today was Day 4 (86 more) and I am LOVING it!! One thing I love about it is that I don’t have to try to decide what to do on my own. I just get up, push play and GO! I think this is great for people like me that have NO idea what they are doing when it comes to strength training etc. I also really appreciate how Tony Horton makes you feel okay if you can’t do it all. I have been careful not to push so hard that I can’t move the next day. I have been sore, but not to the extreme that I can’t sit on the toilet–lol 🙂 Today was yoga and it was tough but felt wonderful!

As for the food plan for P90X, well I didn’t even try to stick to Phase 1 which is pretty low carb. One thing I have learned over the last couple of years is, if I restrict any food group too much–I AM GOING TO BINGE eventually!! I am trying to stick to the Phase 2 plan as much as I can though. It is a 40-40-20 ratio (carbs, prot. and fat).

Here are my eats from yesterday:

best bowl of oats I ever did eat!!

You may have noticed they are a little on the green side–but it is NOT from my long lost friend spinach! I used this new protein powder that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!

YUMMY stuff!

I had been using pure Spirulina in my smoothies and was pleased to find a protein powder that included it. There are LOTS of other goodies in this powder, but I won’t bore you with the details. I also got the Acai protein powder, but haven’t tried it yet.

OMG! I almost forgot my yummy topping on my oats:

put 1/2 Tbs. of this and 1/2 banana on my oats

For lunch, I packed this to take to the pool with me:)

salad w/ venison roast, beans and lots of other yummies--dressing on the side

About three hours later, I had a peanut butter Think Thin bar–not pictured.

When I got home, I was hungry again but not quiet ready for dinner so I had some plain unsweetened soy yogurt with 1/2 scoop of this protein powder–also not pictured.

For dinner, I had a gluten free burrito with some chicken on the side topped with soy cheese–hit the spot!

gluten/dairy free burrito w/ side of chicken and soycheese:)

That picture doesn’t do this meal justice. Too bad I’m out of burritos. Oh well, I guess a trip to the health food store is in order 😉

So there ya have it– a day in the life of a P90X convert.

Better run now. I’m trying to be productive at home today. Cleaning other people’s houses for a living REALLY puts a damper on motivation to clean my own, but the dust bunnies are calling! Hope you are having a great week so far!

Anything exciting in your neck of the woods this week?

We are having my son’s (belated) 18th birthday party this coming weekend!!  Should be loads of fun! 8)

While we were in Florida last week, my hubby ordered something that I was VERY skeptical about. I told him I don’t know how many times that he probably shouldn’t have ordered it, but the deed was already done. I was thinking there is NO WAY I would use what he ordered–until today. What I am referring to is the P90X system! Now, before you say I’m stupid let me just say that after watching a couple of the workouts, I am pleasantly surprised! Before watching, I was thinking this is going to be WAY too hard core for me. Also, how would I get my love of yoga in, and what if I couldn’t do it or if I push too hard. Well, from what I watched it IS pretty hard core, BUT Tony Horton stresses to do what you can and that’s enough! I like him better already 🙂 One of the things I am MOST excited about is he uses A LOT of YOGA–YEEESSS!!!! Even in the Cardio x, there were sun salutations.

Another reason I am willing to give this a shot is to have something my hubby and I can work towards together. AND, honestly, I have been in an exercise rut lately. We are hoping to start on Monday, so if you don’t hear anything from me after that–you’ll know I died–lol!!

Changing the subject now, have you ever woke up starving but NOTHING sounded good? That happened to me this morning! I went to the fridge about a dozen times trying to see if anything seemed like it would hit the spot and–nothing. I finally just decided to go with a regular breakfast of eggs and yogurt even though I wasn’t really feeling it.

eggs, soy yogurt w/ sunbutter, 1/2 apple

That was all fine and good but about two hours later I needed 2nd breakfast.

green smoothie minus the greens:)

Since I am not doing spinach any more due to oxalates, I have been making green smoothies with pure spirulina powder. My life without spinach isn’t so bad afterall 🙂 I usually use water, 1 cup fruit, 1 Tbs. ground flax, sunflower seeds, maca powder, spirulina and raw stevia–yummy, and holds me for hours–usually. I have been drinking this and lots of fresh veggie juice since I have been home from vacation and it is really good for my tummy.

Oh, and look what I found at the health food store yesterday–SO excited!

Gluten/Dairy Free Burrito!

I know, it doesn’t take much to excite me! Sometimes I just crave a good burrito! This didn’t stay together very well when I cooked it, but it hit the spot!

see what I mean?--falling apart but oh so tasty!

I was also excited to find these little goodies:

Mini Raw Revolution Bars--how cute is that?!

I LOVE the Raw Revlolution bars but it takes me days to eat one. The mini ones are perfect!

Last but not least, I’ll leave you with a new ADORABLE picture of the babies 🙂 They are growing so fast! I could just sit and watch them forever. TOO CUTE!!

Aren't they the cutest?!

This is the BIGGEST one! Looks just like the mama:)

Hope everybody has a GREAT FRIDAY!!! I’m SO glad my work week is over and now I have the next FIVE days off–Hallelujah 😉

Have you ever attempted P90X? If so, what were your thoughts?

Any new food finds lately?

Whew! I had a busy weekend! How about you? Saturday we went to my father-in-laws 60th birthday party–no pics–forgot camera. I had a good time, but ate things I shouldn’t have. Hey, my belly was already a wreck so I took my meds and went for it. Sunday was a potluck after church. I did NOT cheat that day–yay for me. I only had a little salad and had something else when I got home.

As busy as my weekend was, my week is about to explode into major busyness. I have a busy work week, but the best part is that my middle son is turning 18!! My other two are 19 and 14! Good grief I feel SO old!! We are having to put off the party for a bit though because…

My hubby and I are leaving Friday for our 2oth anniversary/2nd honeymoon!!! We will be gone for a whole week with no teen drama, no work, just lying around on the beach and relaxing. We are planning a big birthday bash for when we get back. I am SO looking forward to a vacation. I’m sure I will miss my youngin’s terribly though!! It will be weird to not have them around. My husband and I have never gone anywhere for a week without them–except once (went to Nashville and met Heather) and that wasn’t really a vacation for the hubby because it was for work. I on the other hand had a great time–HI HEATHER 🙂

Okay, so on to food. I am back into sprouting!

I experimented with sprouting some last year and thought it was pretty cool and easy. But, the main reason I did it was for digestion.  I am SO stubborn that I just keep trying grains and they just keep NOT working. I am sprouting some quinoa, buckwheat and oat grouts to see if I can handle sprouted grains any better. Not sure if it’s going to work though. I’m also sprouting mung beans and broccoli sprouts.

Remember the buckwheat pancakes I used for bread the other day? Well, I had the pancakes for breakfast the next morning.

buckwheat pancakes with strawberries

Buckwheat is not technically a grain but my belly did NOT appreciate this! Sad 😦 And, I have also realized that I may need to go on a low oxalate diet to help my female issues. I’m waiting to hear back from my ND as to whether this is something I need to try. Believe me, I don’t want to do it if it isn’t absolutely necessary. I don’t want to go into a lot of detail, but some of my main foods that I depend on are VERY high oxalate–like spinach, almonds/almond milk, stevia and chocolate–heaven forbid!! There may be some major changes to my diet coming soon, but I am choosing to just focus on today 😉 Worrying about what may be coming is a waste of my energy.

Matt:6:27 “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

Did you do anything special this past weekend? Any fun vacation plans?

I got up this morning really dragging! I went out to sit on the deck to just chill for a bit. While I was sitting out there, I kept thinking things like “I really should go for my walk, I really should get ready to go to town, I really should do some house work” etc. etc.!! Then the thought occured to me-“WHO SAYS that I have to exercise in the morning instead the afternoon or evening, and WHO SAYS that I have to be in town by a certain time, and WHO SAYS that I have to spend my day off cleaning when that is what I do all week as my job”? So, I ended up talking on the phone with my mom for a while and just chillin’. It felt good to not pressure myself for a change!

I eventually came inside for breakfast but couldn’t decide if I wanted eggs or a smoothie. Well, WHO SAYS I can’t have both?! I fixed some eggs and this yummy spinach smoothie:

strawberry spinach smoothie

I have learned that I don’t do real well with bananas, so I usually use strawberries in my smoothies. I have also learned that strawberries aren’t quite sweet enough to take the green taste away. So, I have been sweetening with this:

strawberry stevia

I only have to use about an 1/8 of a tsp. and my smoothie taste like a strawberry shake. WHO SAYS I can’t have a shake for breakfast? 🙂 I used 1-1/4 cups unsweetened almond milk, 1 cup frozen strawberries, 1 Tbs. hemp seeds, stevia and gobs of spinach.

For lunch, I really wanted a sandwich. I found some all natural turkey that I think I’m in love with. I had seen on Greek Yogurt’s blog some buckwheat pancakes and the thought occured to me to use that for my ‘bread’. WHO SAYS I can’t have a sandwich on pancakes?

turkey and lettuce sandwich w/ broccoli and toffuti sour cream

And for dessert (you know I HAVE to have dessert:)

1/4 piece of bread w/ smidgen of sunbutter and all fruit preserves

I then ended up having to take Samson to the vet which was VERY traumatic for him! He is okay–on antibiotics and deworming meds. He also has a boo-boo on his head that she had to shave and clean up a bit. The visit cost me an arm and a leg, but hey, at least I know he’s okay 🙂

I don't think he likes my camera!

He wouldn’t let me get a good picture and the ones I got turned out too dark.

I finally got around to exercising! WHO SAYS yoga can’t make ya break a sweat?! I did this yoga circuit workout and it always kicks my tail!! When I first found this workout online, I thought it looked pretty easy–well, the first time I did it, I was VERY sore the next day!! Depending on what kind of yoga you do, it can be just as good a workout as weights or anything else. And the advantge of doing yoga–you get to lay on the floor when you’re all done 😉

What are some ways that you tend to pressure yourself to do things a certain way–ex. exercise at a certain time etc.? Can anyone else relate to me on the WHO SAYS revelation?

The Bible says that we are accepted because of Christ-NOT because we do things a certain way!

Eph. 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–NOT BY WORKS, so that no one can boast.”

I am home alone this afternoon! I think a nap and some yoga are in my near future. I just had to get on here and share what  a GREAT sermon we had at church today. The message was about abiding in Christ (John 15:1-5). I came away feeling very encouraged because I don’t have to strive and struggle in my life! Whew! I just need to abide in HIM and I WILL bear much good fruit 😉

I do have a couple of meals to share with you, but will keep it short and simple.

First, I made (almond flour) sugar free chocolate chip scones yesterday that were to die for!

I started out planning to make cranberry scones by adapting a recipe from ‘The Gluten Free Almond Flour Cookbook’ by Elana Amsterdam. Somehow, they turned into sugar free chocolate chip scones–I have no idea how that happened, but they sure were tasty.

Then for dinner last night (and lunch today) I found a new favorite!

This is spaghetti squash with green onions, red pepper, diced chicken breast and a teeny bit of montery jack cheese. I don’t normally eat cheese, but I think I’m okay with a couple of tablespoons 😉

Okay, so maybe I have two new favorites! I have been eating this salad a lot latey too!

Spinach, romaine, broccoli, red peppers, green onions, organic canned chicken with avocado. I usually also have a few baby carrots on the side. Makes a perfect quick, simple lunch!

I’m still in awe at how well the ear staples are working for me. I’m not craving sugar and am feeling better than I have in ages!! I guess if God can use a donkey(Numbers 22:21-32), he can use ear staples 🙂

I’m off to take that nap now!

Okay, that has got to be the dumbest post title EVER! BUT, they all pertain to my day so far. I’ll start with the ‘spit’ because I know that one had to have gotten your attention 😉

As many of you know, I have been struggling with chronic yeast problems for the last year (at least). I was doing some reading online yesterday about Candida and read about a spit test. I had seen this before but never gave it much thought. I did my first spit test yesterday afternoon and it wasn’t looking good. They say that you get better results first thing in the morning, but mine was pretty bad in the afternoon! So, I decided to do it again this morning and see what happened. I’m sure you will be glad to know that I did NOT take pictures of my spit in a glass 🙂 Anyway, this morning’s spit was REALLY bad!! Was I surprised? NO! I’m guessing my Candida is worse than I thought. I also sent off a test that the ND had me do and should hear the results of that soon.  I think I am a walking yeast molecule!! ( Just for the record, my daughter thought this was pretty cool and did it herself. I think she’s fine though as far as yeast goes.)

So, after my science experiment this morning, I proceeded to do my devotion. I am reading through the Book of Mark and still praying about a particular Bible study. Then I did a glorious 75 minutes of yoga on my own. I really like Yogadownload and going to classes when I can, but I think my favorite is just doing what my body feels like doing all on my own. This makes me very happy and content 😀 I was looking at a yoga book this morning and found this quote that I liked:

“If your practice doesn’t increase the joy in your life, it is the wrong practice for you.”

For my eats today, I had eggs and grain free bread for breakfast–no picture. How interesting can eggs and bread be anyway? For lunch, I had my heart set on some poached salmon that I made for dinner last night. My tummy was feeling pretty out of whack last night, so I skipped the salmon thinking I would just eat it for lunch today. Well, what happens when there are three teens and a hungry hubby in the house? They ate ALL the salmon–and roasted asparagus!! I ended up having chicken salad -hold the mayo- with raw veggies.

I used organic gluten free canned chicken and added green onions, red peppers, 1 tsp. olive oil and salt and pepper.

I have an appointment with the ND this Friday that should be pretty interesting so stay tuned 🙂

Now, I know all of you want to go spit in a glass, right?

Added note: After more research, I just wanted to say that I would not use the spit test for an official diagnoses for Candida. I mainly did it for fun and out of curiosity. It is important to note that I have a gazillion other symptoms and am having an actual lab test done to see where I stand with candida. So, if you go spit in a glass and it looks all funky but you have no other symptoms–no worries 😉

Here are some things I am learning:)

1-I need to start a strict anti-candida diet! The ND is going to have me do a test that we send off that tells how bad it is and what strand of yeast I have. We can then proceed to treat accordingly with herbal/natural supplements. Main point-I have severe candida!!

2-I learned today that green monsters without ANY fruit are REALLY nasty!! ‘Nuff said! That also means I learned that breakfast on high raw, anti-candida is going to be tricky! Any ideas?

3– I learned that I like raw rutabaga blended with garlic, olive oil, salt etc. These were supposed to be patties, but didn’t quiet work the way they were supposed to. So, I learned that they make great croutons!

This is my salad I packed for lunch today. It had:

romaine, english cucumber, yellow pepper, cherry tomatoes, carrots, sprouts, sprouted black quinoa, and broken up rutabaga “patties”

4-I learned that raw broccoli is NOT my friend. I didn’t take a picture. For snack today, I had raw broccoli with some black bean dip.

5-I learned that I LOVE Gena’s BEST. SOUP. EVER.!!

BEST.EVER.SOUP I do not typically like raw soups at all, but this one, well it was a different story!

6-I then proceeded to learn that butternut is probably not good for candida. Not sure about that though. Raw foods have less sugar and carbs than cooked food. Any info. here?

7-I learned that chia pudding has a very weird texture that I’m not sure I like.

Raw cocoa chia pudding

I tasted this and stuck it back in the fridge. Will taste again later:)

8-I learned that this is my favorite raw meal so far:

Raw bread with tomato, sprouts and raw cheese with coleslaw

9-I learned that cheese is a no-no for anti-candida diet:( I rarely ever have it, but it’s nice every once in a while. So long cheese!

10-I learned that functioning on VERY little sleep is TORTURE when you have to go clean someone’s house!! I NEED SLEEP!!!

There– I learned at least TEN new things today!! Never too old to learn!:)

Have you learned anything new today? I also learned that I can’t spell or type very well today!LOL!
